DYLAN TOWNSEND
Irish Writer, Author & Poet

Dylan Townsend AuthorHi there! Welcome to the site and thank you for spending your precious time to see what is happening with my work. Amongst the books, poems, articles and blogs, I do hope you may find something that inspires, seduces and at times infuriates. For if there is a purpose within literature, it is at least to create emotions and at best prompt the provocation that brings about eurekas and new visioning.

To let you know a little bit about myself and give you some background on my work. I was given a leather diary when I was a young lad. Writing at the time, was a laborious and despised activity that took the uninspiring connotation of English class essays and analysing ancient poetry with no grounding in the modern era. The diary opened up the possibilities of the everyanything… the fact I could write for me and not for grading, marks and the inevitable ‘not-good-enough’ was rather uplifting.

I began writing poems on the small occurrences… micro details became richness and of worth… once the thoughts were there on paper, a world that was so hard to express sometimes in language, became so much more understandable through writing. As the diaries mounted up, I began to read the stories and poems to friends and family. I was not discouraged and so continued to write write write.

Taking off around the globe at 19, I began writing travel anecdotes and about characters I met. These jots became a story entitled “the Thus of absurd’ and is unpublished, for the language is very obtuse and they are mostly incomprehensible, but it taught me that to write for others I must re-adjust the style until I am wise enough to write the next ‘Ulysses’. I came home and decided to get serious and went to Rathmines college of Journalism in Dublin and throughout and after the course, began working as a freelance journalist. I was Writing for national and local newspapers, mostly on environmental issues and other more frivolous topics such as modeling and the new hip goings on in Dublin’s fair city.

I began my first book ‘Before Girls Grew Breasts’ when I was transitioning from the teens to ‘adulthood’ and have edited and edited some more over the last few years. An agent recommended I turn the book into an audiobook and with the help of a good friend who is a superb music producer, we got the audiobook put together in 2010. The audiobook is on the products section and this book will be turned into physical and digital format throughout 2011.

Recently off the press is my first book of poems that can be attained through Amazon in physical format and is a collection from my initial years of writing poetry entitled
“A Little of Wisom, A Lot of Ignorance”

Please feel free to look around the site at previous work, my resume is visual and can be seen on my ISSUU page… check out the blogs that I am currently penning and for more day to day thoughts and ideas please see my Tumblr and Facebook fanpage.

At the moment, I am working on a book of travel stories, two poetry books and a novel as I wander east around the globe with my partner Rani.

Please get in contact with any questions and also if you are interested in publishing any stories, poems and articles elsewhere.

As always, keep it juicy!
